90 Capsules (0.3mg)
- Sleep: Supports the circadian rhythm and sleep/wake cycle.*
- Antioxidant: Is a unique antioxidant in that it can cross the blood brain barrier and it prevents oxidant formation, scavenges free radicals and repairs oxidized molecules, most antioxidants only do one or two of these functions.*
- Cellular health: supports healthy inflammation, reduces DNA and cellular damage and supports mitochondrial health.*
Melatonin regulates the circadian rhythm or sleep/wake cycle based on light and dark, NOT day and night. The sleep cycle is triggered when the retina registers darkness and secrets melatonin from the pineal gland into the bloodstream. Similarly, the wake cycle is triggered when the retina registers light. This is important as taking melatonin and then being exposed to light can make it harder to sleep or waking in darkness can make it hard to wake up.
As you can see there is continual release of melatonin throughout the night with a major decline after about 5am. The melatonin in Herbatonin is within the cell of the plant, and so the natural digestion and breakdown of these cells means that it is released through the night mimicking the body’s own production.*
Take 1 capsule of Herbatonin 0.3mg daily, about 30 minutes before going to bed.
Sleep tip: Melatonin responds to light and dark, not day and night. For best results go to sleep in darkness, with no screens or night lights and wake to sunlight.*
Cellular health & antioxidant tip: The body’s own production of melatonin drops to about 0.1mg per day after the age of 55 so adding Herbatonin 0.3mg brings the body back to normal physiological levels.*
- Bio-identical: The plant melatonin in Herbatonin is molecularly identical to human melatonin.*
- 100% Natural: Ingredients are rice, alfalfa and chlorella all in a vegan capsule (Hypromellose – plant derived cellulose)
- Bioavailability: The melatonin in Herbatonin is within the plant’s cell matrix, it is not extracted.
- Clean: Contains no chemicals, solvents, artificial colors or flavors, preservatives or excipients.
- Allergen-free: Contains no gluten, dairy, soy, wheat, corn or sucrose.
Plant Melatonin (Herbatonin) vs Synthetic Melatonin – Why Nature Knows Best
The ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) value, or “ORAC score” is a method of measuring the in vitro antioxidant capacity of different foods and supplements.
More than two decades in the making, it was originally developed by scientists working at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and USDA. Measuring in vivo (meaning inside the human body) is not possible and for that reason, the exact relationship between the ORAC value of a food/supplement and any suspected health benefit it may have as a result is unproven. However, many scientists theorize that foods higher on the ORAC scale may be more effective at neutralizing free radicals.
Free Radical Scavenging Percentage - (DPPH%)
Herbatonin® appears to possess significantly stronger antioxidant potential and free radical scavenging capacity as compared to synthetic melatonin according to emerging evidence.* DPPH are organic compounds comprised of stable free radical molecules used to analyze antioxidant capacity.
Free Radical Scavenging Percentage - (DPPH%)
Herbatonin® appears to possess significantly stronger antioxidant potential and free radical scavenging capacity as compared to synthetic melatonin and vitamin C according to emerging evidence.*
In addition, at higher doses of Herbatonin® there appear to be a slight synergistic effect.*
Targeted Support (COX-2)
Herbatonin® may have superior abilities to reduce COX-2 enzyme activity (and subsequent inflammation) as compared to synthetic melatonin.*
ROS Fluorescence (Cellular Damage) in Human Skin Cell Line
Intracellular Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) are by products of cellular metabolism. Overproduction of ROS is associated with cellular and DNA damage as well as the development of various human diseases, inflammation, and aging.
Higher ROS levels = higher cell damage.
Fluorescence levels were taken at different time intervals to see damage progression.
